Introduction to Special Needs in the Classroom workshop Series

These on-line workshops offer practical learning tools, interactive learning environments and valuable peer-to-peer support for educators and support staff working with children with special needs. The workshop series was originally designed for Educational Assistants, but was recently revised to be relevant for classroom teachers, parents, students, and therapists alike. Anyone who will be working with students in some capacity is welcome to participate. The moderated workshops are offered entirely online. You will be able to participate in the workshop at your own pace within the scheduled three week workshop period, with a couple online or telephone group chats with the moderator to help consolidate learning and answer questions. Learners will benefit from up-to-date and engaging content, practical and applicable knowledge from instructor-moderated online discussion, and a network of participants. Course are offered twice between September and March.

The Introduction to Special Needs in the Classroom workshop series offers the following courses:

Autism Spectrum Disorder  - TBD Fall 2018

Learning Disabilities -  TBD Fall 2018

Developmental Disabilities  - TBD Fall 2018

Behaviour Disorders  -  TBD Fall 2018

Each workshop is moderated by an experienced educator. A tuition fee of $40 (plus HST) per workshop is charged. The workshops are offered between September and May.

Successful completion will be awarded a certificate of participation and a SNOW workshop badge. Digital badges are a way of demonstrating your achievements online. We are hosting the badges in an Alumni Community section, which we hope will also be a potential forum for former participants to connect and share experiences. 

Outside-In Self-Paced Accessibility Workshops

These online workshops were developed as part of Outside-In, a past project run out of our department, the Inclusive Design Research Centre. One of the goals of the program was to empower youth with exceptionalities to actively participate in activities that will make the world more accessible rather than leave them passive recipients of acts of accessibility.
